Calisthenics

ongoing calisthenics and gymnastics projects, sometimes at an early stage. Also, some thoughts about moving.

In this page, I will track my progress in the following calisthenics and gymnastics categories: handstand, pull, push, gymnastics, and mobility.

According to wikipedia, the Oxford English Dictionary describes callisthenics as gymnastic exercises to achieve fitness and grace of movement. The word calisthenics comes from the ancient Greek words kállos (κάλλος), which means “beauty” and sthenos (σθένος), meaning “strength”.

At my own level, I would like to make mine this statement of the gymnastics legend, Kohei Uchimura (内村 航平), beauty of movement is my goal (see this interview’s moment). In retrospective, it is funny to me that even in my mathematical journey, I feel a true sense of beauty in the modelisation of evolving systems and the study of dynamical systems. There are a lot of mesmerizing patterns in nature but I seek and feel beauty in understanding and modelizing (even simulating) the processes that generate them.

Because of these, I hope that sharing my calisthenics journey will benefit others and will show that, in so many different ways, moving around is a lot of fun!
